Things to know before becoming SBI PO

The State Bank of India, which is the country’s largest public sector bank, was established on July 1, 1955. SBI accepts applications for many job positions such as SBI PO and many other  departmental positions. Each year, the State Bank of India carries out the PO exam to select competent persons for the position of PO from a huge pool of applicants. It is among the most highly coveted SBI tests of India. The whole selection process for the SBI PO is divided into three stages. These are preliminary exams, main exams, and interviews. For every candidate to qualify as SBI PO, all the three phases must be completed. The eligibility criteria to become a PO with the State Bank of India are listed below. 

  • Nationality 

To appear for the exams, the candidate must be an Indian citizen. 

  • Qualification 

Every candidate applying for the SBI PO position must necessarily be a graduate or have equivalent qualification from a recognized university.

  • Age 

The minimum age limit to apply for the PO post in SBI is 21 years and the maximum limit is 30 years. However, an upper age limit applies for individuals belonging to scheduled tribes and castes, other backward classes, ex-servicemen, persons affected by 1984 riots, and regular employees of the Union Carbide Factory. 

Any candidate who fulfills the criteria can apply for the position of SBI PO. The steps listed below must be followed in sequential order and all candidates must have proper documents before applying for the examinations. 

  • Step 1: SBI PO Registration

First, the candidate must visit the official website of SBI. After that, the candidate needs to click on ‘New Registration’ on the home page of SBI Career. Then, necessary details such as name, phone number, email id, and security code must be filled in. After the completion of registration, the student will be allotted a provisional registration number and password which will be sent to the registered email ID. 

  • Step 2: Upload Photo and Signature

After the registration process, candidates need to upload the photograph, signature, and left thumb impression. It must be noted that the signature of the candidate must be in running handwriting, if it is in capital letters, it will not be approved. Further, the impression of the left thumb must be scanned properly. 

  • Step 3: Fill the detailed application form

In this step, the page is divided into three parts- basic details, educational qualification and experience, and preferences. For basic details, candidates need to fill in personal information, select exam centers, date of birth, gender, father’s name or mother’s name, address, etc. For educational qualification, work experience, and languages, candidates need to enter details of their graduation such as year of passing, college, percentage of marks, etc. Candidates are required to fill in their work experience and enter the languages that they can read, write and speak. For preferences, candidates need to enter the preferences of banks where they wish to work upon selection. 

  • Step 4: Preview the application form

Candidates can preview the application form before the final submission. After this is done, all candidates are required to agree to the terms and conditions and submit their applications. 

  • Step 5: SBI PO fee payment 

This is the last step of the SBI PO application process. Here, the form of the candidate will be linked with the payment gateway. The payment can be made by using Debit Cards, Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets by providing the necessary information. E-receipts are generated if the payment made is successful. This along with the online application form must be printed out by the candidates.

Proper documentation is essential for every candidate appearing for the SBI PO examinations. The documents required that must be kept in handy while applying is listed below:

  • Scanned photograph and signature
  • Left thumb impression
  • Bank details to pay the application fees
  • Marksheet of graduation to enter educational details
  • Valid email ID and contact number

To get the best results, all candidates must appear for the SBI PO mock test of both levels. This will help students in evaluating their current level of preparation and identifying strengths and weaknesses before the final examinations. The exam pattern and details of mock tests are listed as under-

The initial exam for becoming a SBI PO is the prelims. On clearing this exam, the candidate gets the chance to attempt the further main exams. The prelims have mcq pattern questions.The exam comprises three sections-Quantitative Aptitude, English, and Reasoning Ability. The total time limit for the exam is about 60 minutes, 20 minutes for each. There is negative marking for incorrect solutions. No marking will be done for unanswered questions. This exam is only for the purpose of passing on to the next stage and the results will not affect the preparation of the final merit list. 

The mains exam contains mcq pattern as well as explanatory questions. The total duration for the mcq part is about 180 minutes and for the explanatory part is half an hour. The mcq section comprises a total of about four sections-Data Analysis and Interpretation and General Awareness, Reasoning and Computer Aptitude, and English. The explanatory section contains two questions. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for incorrect answers. There will be no changes or subtractions for blank questions.
