GONE ZOMBIE & HUMAN TORCH
I was already planning a mid-week blog, but it looks like I’ve only made it to Tuesday. Reason being that I have something out right now and something out tomorrow.
Over on ZUDA Comics the first 8 pages of a webcomic that I was involved in is up. Written by Stephen Thor and colored by Drew Moore, GONE ZOMBIE is the story of man just trying to put his life back together in a world that’s gone mad.
Normally I’m not a zombie fan. Oh sure they are fun. Shaun of The Dead is brilliant. But as monsters go they are really one-trick ponies, and so are 99% of zombie comics. So my socks were totally blown off my feet when I started reading Steve’s script. It’s a very original take on the genre and I am wracked with guilt for not being able to finish the run with him.
I was sort of starving to death at the time and was on the verge of admitting defeat as an artist, getting a day job, and then curling up in a ball and dying. But then Marvel called, and then Atomic Robo exploded, and I had no real choice but to fuck Steve over.
So I am REALLY excited to see GONE ZOMBIE up on Zuda. It’s a fantastic story. The art is shit. Please vote for it if you like it.
Also out this week is HUMAN TORCH. I don’t have any soppy and sentimental story to go with this one. It was a really fun book to work on, Scott Snyder was a super swell guy, and our editor Jeanine Schaefter is a pip. It’s a fun little one-shot romp through the attic of the Marvel Universe as all the original Atlas and Timely Comics characters are wheeled out, dusted off, and let loose upon an unsuspecting comic reading public.
Scott Snyder’s also got some stuff in the works over at Vertigo, so keep an eye out for his name over there.
