I Have No Point

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I  must admit that I’m at a bit of a loss for this week’s blog. The Robert Kirkman thing didn’t exactly inspire the conversation I was hoping for, and that’s left me feeling a little uncertain.

Luckily, my friend Ryan sent me this. I met Ryan back in college and was delighted to find out a year or two ago that he also is a closet geek, like me. (more…)

How To Save Comics

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

So last week I was asked what I thought about the recent Robert Kirkman video. The text break-down of his concept is also at that link, and worth checking out. I thought it would be interesting to get Brian Clevinger in on this, so we will both be sharing our thoughts on this. Brian’s response can be seen over at atomic-robo.com. (more…)

Yay The Olympics Are Over

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I was at a friend’s house the other day and they had the Olympics on their TV. As a child I hated the Olymipcs because it interrupted the programs I actually wanted to watch. Quantum Leap for example. While I was in Alaska we ate dinner in a bar one night and playing on the big screen was the opening ceremonies and they were amazing. Fake, CGI special effects and all. I missed some of it so I can’t wait for it to hit the internet so I can re-watch it. Thinking that perhaps my pallet for Olympic sports had changed I watched what was playing on my friend’s TV for a few minutes.

GOJIRA!

Still recovering from Alaska.

Man, what a travel marathon I’ve had the last few months! I’m glad I decided to skip Baltimore Comic Con this year -it might have killed me.

But here, have another Atomic Robo & The Dogs of War review. (more…)

Northern Exposure

Day The First:

This week the I Hate Blogs blog is coming to you from somewhere in Alaska. Probably whatever bar in Anchorage I was able to find that had  wi-fi. Perhaps you are asking yourselves, “Since when do they have an Alaska Comic Con?” Well they don’t.

I’m actually here on family business -specifically the disposal of my father’s remains. He’s been dead for well over a year now -we’re sort of a family of procrastinators. We’ve already taken care of the stake through the heart, dismemberment, and incineration. All that is left is to scatter the ashes on the far side of several thousand bodies of running water and we will be reasonably assured that he will not cause us any more trouble. Though perhaps choosing a place called Resurrection Bay to scatter his remains is not the wisest choice. (more…)

Free Hugs? . . .Uh, No Thanks.

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Before I get started I have a little business to attend to. Atomic Robo Vol.2: Atomic Robo & The Dogs of War will be hitting stores on August 13th. I did a shit job of begging you pre-order issues 2.1 and 2.2, but 2.3 can still be pre-ordered. Please do so.

Brian is doing a much better job of it that I am.

Also, we got some new reviews and random Internet chatter in for Atomic Robo. You can check those out on CBR, and Comics Bulletin. There are a few typos and misquotes in the CBR interview -that happens sometimes with email interviews. It’s no big deal, and we LOVE CBR -I just wanted to point it out to you guys. Nothing major though; just Brian being quoted with my answers, my response to the final question being omitted, and 8-Bit Theater somehow being nominated for an Eisner. . . I don’t know where that came from. EDIT: Oh look, the uncut version of the CBR interview is up on Atomic-Robo.com.

Okay, on to the blog. . . (more…)

I Survived SDCC, And All I Got Was Jet-Lag

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Speaking as a pilot with nearly 2,000 hours, and hundreds of landings under my belt, I feel that I can say with a certain degree of authority that landings in large commercial aircraft, no matter how smooth, are totally freakin’ terrifying.

San Diego Comic Con! (Edit)

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Wizard Universe did a quick little Interview with us. thought you’d like to check it out .

So SDCC begins this Thursday. Brian, Ronda, and I will be with Red5 Comics at L3, in the small press area. Things are going to be pretty tight, so we won’t be there every minute of the con, but I hope to see lots of people, sell tons of sketches and Robo pages, and wander around, taking in the spectacle. The Ugly American

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Sorry for the delayed post, but I was in Canada for the Toronto Paradise show. and what a great show it was!

Before I forget, Brian and I were interviewed by Wizard Magazine . Okay, back to Toronto.

I was both excited and nervous about crossing the boarder. Would I be stoned, or pelted with rotten vegetables? Would I be able to master the language and strange currency? And how on earth would I manage to not make a total ass of myself? As it turned out the peso system was very similar to our own US currency, and Esperanto is a fairly easy dialect to master. (more…)
