FCBD May 2, 2009 & Atomic Robo 3.1

Slightly edited from Atomic-Robo.com: You heard it here first unless you heard it somewhere else before you heard it here: Atomic Robo and the Shadow From Beyond Time #1 hits stores this Wednesday — 100% guaranteed, confirmed by Diamond — 4/29/09. And it’s about damned time. Check out the 5-page preview over at ComiXology.

It looks like this.

The delays at the printer were a pain in the ass, but on the bright side this Saturday is Free Comic Book Day. Which is great all on its own, but it means you’ve got a chance for a double dose of hot Atomic Robo action. You should pick it up, it’s probably the best story we’ve done yet.

Brian will be signing at Sci-Fi City in Orlando, FL and also probably Bad Apple Comics UCF.

I will be signing at New England Comics (Brookline 11-2pm, Allston 3-6pm). Drop by, say hello, get free stuff!

Meanwhile! Brian finished writing the fifth and final issue of Volume 3 this weekend but as usual he rushed it and I told him the last half was shit and why. Actually, not true. But I do have some issues with the last half of the comic. Brian wants the science to be real, because when it comes to time travel it is always done really poorly, and he feels a need to do it right. And I get that. But a lot of real science is really really boring. So we’re sort of duking it out in a friendly sort of way to see what sort kind compromise we can arrive at. But if the last issue of Vol.3 is rubbish, it is 100% not my fault. Everybody clear on that? Good.

Here’s a sketch from Vol.3 and an early stab at a Vol.4 character.

Woohoo! At last, the long-awaited (by me, anyway) arrival of Dr. Dinosaur!

Dude, I don’t mean to be critical, but you can’t just put a suit on the ghost rider and give him metal hands and call it a “new” character. |:p

Those sketches are old. Seen them like…a month ago.
But, huzzah for free comics, I’m going to have to get a relative to pick it up for me.

@Scott: I can’t wait for free comic book day! I had 2 copies from ‘08 that were the jetpack exclusive covers that I got signed by you at the portsmouth comic show (Thanks by the way, And no I didn’t sell them), but I still can’t manage to get my hands on the standard variant cover. If I can’t get it soon, I’ll just buy it on ebay.

@John: Maybe its because i don’t get out much, but is this Dr. Dinosaur’s first appearance? Or is he a robo-universe character? I just thought since you’ve apparently been awaiting this book.

if the last issue of Vol.3 is rubbish

You are the captain of the USS Exaggeration.

John -it feels like I drew Dr. D’s adventure ages ago. It will be nice to finally see it go “live”.

Dave -when you get nominated for an Eisner you can critisize. Until then shut the hell up. :) (We’re related folks, I can be like that.)

Zephirius -Geeeeeze, everyone’s a critic today. Yes. the sketches are old . Ancient. :P

Brian -Oh I don’t know. Yesterday you were not too keen on changing anything.

Ben -Good luck. I haven’t seen a regular FCBD o8 cover since last summer.

3 Wegener books this week! Awesome. Also, the FCBD Robo story had me laughing out loud. Hope to see more Dr. Dinosaur soon! Great job guys!

Very nice that FCBD, can’t wait to see more Dr. Dinosaur action! Oh and good job to Red 5, I’m tempted by the other 2 titles previewed

Your FCBD book was fantastic! If I was to put them all in order of which ones I liked, yours would be tied with the alien vs. predator book for the #1 spot. Drone looks really good, except I don’t like the style some of the people are drawn in. And still no robo 3.1 at jetpack yet.

I also got 2 ninja turtles books signed by the original creators at rochester’s FCBD festival.

So congrats on the new books, I’m sure more people will know about AR now.
