Car Seat Bed Sores (Edit)

Hey look. The website is 96% up and running! Yay for me, (and the half dozen unnamed friends who figured out all the hard stuff for me)!

I guess our Christmas vacation is truly over now. We drove back to Staten Island Friday night, and drove back yesterday. That’s a shit-ton of driving to cram into three days. The innards of our little Scion smells like a mix of sweat and french fries and is littered with empty water bottles, coffee cups, straw wrappers, and six kinds of candy packaging. I’m pretty sure there’s part of a pastrami sandwich from Rein’s Deli rotting under the backseat somewhere.

I expected the Widget to be less than excited to get up for school today. What with the ice-storm and all, she hasn’t seen the inside of her classroom since December 11th, and I don’t think she’s gotten out of bed before 10am since Christmas morning. We’ll be skipping Kung Fu this afternoon because on a normal day it leaves her tired and cranky. Today she might be dropping some Shaolin Violence on my head if I refuse to stop at McDonalds afterwards, or force her to read before going to bed. So yeah, we’ll just wait until Thursday, thank you very much.

The phone just rang a few minutes ago, (it’s 6:30am). It was a recorded message from her school. two hour delay. Because its wet out and there might be some ice. Que es? Even when school is open for business I’m not so sure that my kid is getting the best education. But the way this dump shuts its doors without even investigating the weather conditions an hour or so before school starts drives me berserk. If you’re afraid of ice and snow, here’s an idea -DON”T LIVE IN FUCKING NEW HAMPSHIRE! Especially the bumpy parts near the mountains.

Morons . . .

As usual my mother, i.e. Santa, went way over the top, especially where her only grandchild was concerned. We brought some of the loot home with us last Monday, yet the car was still so stuffed with things today that I thought we might have to leave the kid there for another week. There was just nowhere to pack her. The rides down and back, then down and back again were made much nicer thanks to David Sedaris and the  “When You Are Englufed In Flames” audio book. Sedaris is one of those writes who I could read (or listen to) forever. He’s a living reminder that someone was a more fucked up child than I was, and his faggy voice is just delightful to listen to.

Robo Vol.1 got a nice little review on I Read Comics, comic talk from a real live girl, Show # 79. A few of the details got messed up, but really, when don’t they? What struck me was the production quality of this podcast. The music was very nice, and a refreshing change from the usual crap you find on most comic book podcasts. I would even go so far as to say it was beautiful. Something else that I really liked was that I Read Comics talked about, and linked to, Some Simple Rules. Another thing that really stood out was that this particular podcaster only spoke when she actually had something worth saying. Usually it’s a bunch of guys, one who is too far away from his microphone, and at least one who is making love to it, and they just babble on like idiots.

That’s all I’ve got this week guys. I’m pooped. If I feel saucy, I might post something mid-week. I know that no one read Back Home For A Few Days. It’s full of stuff. Go read that. :)

Happy New Year everyone.

EDIT: Just got a Google Alert for The Kid’s Comic Book Review. How can I not include a link to that?

I wonder if one can obtain seeds for Gojira melons? That would make for a kick ass garden this year.

I hear ya about the stupid school closings. There are schools here in Wisconsin that will close if there is 3 inches of snow on the ground, and some that won’t close until there is 9 inches. You are in Wisconsin folks, it freakin snows here. A LOT. Get some damn plows. I am under the opinion that Winter, and it’s lack of constant sunshine, makes humnas really dumb.

Like a seasonal disorder. I like that. :)

Andrew -I have mixed feelings on Reins. I don’t understand the Zagat rating at all -the food is pretty “meh”. the pickles for example; sure they’re homemade, but half sour and no dill? Seriously? The lox are great, but the kinish are so-so. Basically all the fish is fantastic and everything else is like dinner food.

All very satisfying, mind you. But a Zagat rating? I don’t think so.

Maybe they got it because the staff is so consistently awesome. Because they are. And you can tell that they have a lot of loyal customers, which also makes the place A-okay in my book. A good sign.

I think the thing that irks me is that Rein’s does that whole “New York Deli” thing. I can’t say I ever saw a deli like Rein’s growing up in NY. Who the hell could afford that kind of square footage? It’s like a parody of a deli -like you would find on a sit-com like Friends.

But like I said, the staff is the best, and the comfort food menu, (I swear there is nothing on the menu that is not bad for you), is always satisfying.

Despite my bitching, I stop there every time I go to, or drive home from, NYC. :P

Mike -sounds like someone is posting before their daily dosing of cafine.

That was what happened I will try to post after my dose of ( CAFINE ) HEhEheHe

Yet my midwestern university was actually sued for the injuries sustained by students when they forced us to get out on roads and sidewalks that were literally covered in a thick layer of ice. I think your kid’s school and my school got their winter weather response plans mixed up.

Hey Scott what’s up. I did an interview back in October and it’s just been put online. Don’t kill me bro over the headline - I had nothing to do with it. If you read it, you see I gave the proper respect.
Check it out and let me know if you like it or you want to rip my heart out - LOL
