All Is Well With The Blog Again

The last two weeks have been nothing but one irritating issue with my website after another. Formatting, links, images -you name it! Much thanks go out to Brian Clevinger for updating my version of WordPress and still somehow keeping my old custom web theme thing intact.

Though that last bit may be redundant, as I have heard from my web mistress that Scott Wegener 2.0 should be ready for the public by the end of the month. Which probably means September, since something always goes wrong with these things. Still, I am very excited about it! I have what I thought were some neat ideas about the website, and she is bound to come up with something ten times better. (No pressure!)

Work on Atomic Robo has more or less ground to a screeching halt. Since the Widget got out of school I think I have averaged about two pages a week. the bills are piling up, and I’m popping Tums like they are rock candies. But today was her first day of Girl scout camp.

I love Girl Scout Camp.

It means 4 weeks of normal work for me, before we return to a month of Goss Park and then finally, Second Grade. Now if I could only find someone to go to Toronto, SDCC, and Alaska for me, so i could get some friggin’ work done! Toronto and SDCC have turned into giant pains in the ass, sitting smack-dab in the middle of my only productive summer month. I’m still very excited to do both conventions, but DAMN. Why do they have to be in July!?!

Then right after those trips, it’s 9 days of Alaska. 6 of which will be spent driving to NYC, then flying to the West Coast, then flying to Alaska, then Alaska to West Coat, West Coast to NYC, NYC to NH. So 3 days in Alaska.

Now you workin’ folk are probably sitting there thinking, “Screw you Weg’ner, we should all have your problems.” And to a degree you are right. But see, you get these magical things called “vacation days”, in where somebody pays you money to not go to work. You probably take them in one, two, or even three week blocks of time.

My “time off” is not that easy to schedule. Especially being the Mr. Mom that I am. In the Great Salad of Life, my free time is that little bit of cheese you sprinkle over an otherwise green and bitter spring mix. Most of the time those little bits of cheese are two small to notice, but occasionally you get a clump of cheese and you’re all, “Holy smokes, that’s some good cheese!” But most of the time it’s just green leafy stuff.

It occurs to me that some of you may be used to getting your salads wrapped in a deep fried taco bowl, with beef, salsa, and sour cream mixed in. So maybe the salad analogy is a bad one.

Basically, time away from work stresses me out. This art thing is very hand-to-mouth. Thomas Hart Benton once said, “Being an artist is a wonderful career -if you can get through the first 40 years of making no money.”

Anyway. . . Widget is off at camp and I am actually making good progress on todays Robo page, so I’m going to get back to it.

PS: As much as I complain about the time wasted sitting at Goss Park, I already miss watching the Widget play with her friends, and chatting with the moms. :(

RANDOM SPLENDOR

This weeks splendor comes entirely from the Fail Blog . It’s a lot of fun.

Okay . . .i take that back.

I STILL can’t get images into the blog.

BRRRRIIIIAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!!

EDIT ; we have found a work around. It sucks. But it works.

I hear ya on the whole vacation thing. When I was freelancing full time it was a pain to try and take any time off. it always seemed like once a project was winding down and a few days were looking to be free, along would come something that “needed to be done asap” or I was the only one who they knew would have it done quick!
That’s what’s nice about having a full time regular job with bennies. 2 weeks of vacation a year. I’m taking next week off to get some back burner projects finished, do some house projects, and see Dark Knight. Should be kick ass. Now if I could only afford to go to SDCC….

Yeah, I wish I could afford SDCC too. :P

Seeing the shirt on that guy makes me think of the Monty Python sketch with the English-Hungarian dictionary. “Would you like to come back to my place? Bouncy-bouncy”

so you ARE gonna make it to SanDiego?
That is AWESOME!
Will you be there all 4 days? (basically will you still be there on Sunday?) that’s the only day i’m able to make. It’d be pretty cool to shake the collective hands of AtomicRobo.

mattcrap, do you know where the collective hands of atomic robo have been? you might want to think about that before shaking them. i’ll i’m gonna say is hand sanitizer, buy some.

I really like that Thomas Hart Benton quote and it is one of the two reasons I don’t draw comics for a living, the other, of course is marked lack of talent.
