Wall-E & Atomic Robo Vol.2.2 (links fixed)

The reviews for the Atomic Robo TPB are starting to roll in. Rogues Gallery, the Comic Book Bin, Geeks of Doom!, and The Trades. I’d like to show them too you -but WordPress is currently all jacked up and I can’t add links to anything.

HUGE thanks to Brian for updating WordPress for me, thus making this possible. I’m leaving the rest of the blog as it is due to time constraints, but I hope you enjoy the TPB reviews.

Also, I should point out that Atomic Robo Vol.2.2 is available for pre-order. But still -no links for you. But unless you have suffered a heavy blow to the head recently I think you can figure out how to get to the comic shop, heavyink.com, or red5comics.com.

Well this is funny, (by which I mean INFURIATING!).

Microsoft Word just quit working on me.

It keeps demanding a “product key” that did not come with my computer, that the place I purchased the computer from says they are not required to provide, and which Microsoft wants me to purchase from them.

Purchase? I just paid for the computer! Word should be part of the deal, assholes.

Sigh.

Between Microsoft and WordPress I am about ready to go postal. And I don’t mean that figuratively.

So I am typing in Notepad which sucks. Mostly because of the total lack of spell-check. And the ability to insert hyperlinks. And a million other reasons.

Anyone know a way to get around this stupid product key thing?? UGH!

EDIT: It turns out that for the first time in history I’ve bought a computer that does not come with Word. First I had to talk to Microsoft -who told me to get bent. Then I contacted overstock.com -who kept me in LiveChat limbo for 20 minutes and then told me to get bent. And finally HP told me the awful truth.

So now I am editing in MS Works -the shitty step-child of Word. This fucking blows.

Dorinda and I went out in a “date” on Saturday. We haven’t really seen much of each other this week, and last weekend in New York was a lot of running around and not a lot of quality together-time. As a result we are both a little tense. We went up to New England College, where she recently got her MFA. They were having a reading, followed by a dance party. My hips hurt, and I have the Copa Cabana stuck in my head. I did get to shake my ass though, so that’s good. It’s been forever since we’ve gone dancing.

Before heading out we took the Widget to see Wall-E. Wow, what a great movie. Like Iron Giant great. And just like the Iron Giant, Wall-E has that same sort of robot-with-down-syndrome, as if his A.I. was patterned on “Corky” Thatcher, from Life Goes On. For obvious reasons, retarded robots are sympathetic, and ultimately, irresistibly cute. I don’t know if I will be able to wait for DVD before seeing this again. In an ironic twist, the theme of the movie basically shows us where our consumer culture, with all it’s conspicuous consumption of disposable goods, might be headed. So what does the Widget and every other kid in the theater get? A shitty rubber wrist watch that breaks five minutes after we get home, which is now sitting in our trash can waiting to go to the landfill. nice one Disney/Pixar. Very funny.

Jerks. . .

RANDOM SPLENDOR
Because WordPress is being a bag of assholes to rival MS Word this week, I am unable to insert links into anything at all on the blog right now. I don’t know why. I just know it’s got me mad enough to eat dead babies.

But here are some stupid pictures to look at. . .No wait, that’s something else WordPress isn’t letting me do this week.

I hate you right now WordPress. With all my little heart.

    Open Office.

Get it. Use it. Love it.

  2. Dan Said:

You might try Open Office. It’s a pretty good replacement for MS Office, I think. I mean, it’s large, and a bit slow, but it’s also free.

Though I try to use stuff like that as little as possible, often people send you stuff in those formats and you have to be able to open them, you know?

    Anyway: openoffice.org

I do most of my writing in free stuff like this: NoteTab Light 5.61

  3. Dan Said:

Whoops, didn’t notice Ryan’s post, sorry.

  4. Tetsubo Said:

    I also recommend Open Office.

Wall-E was very good. The fact that they based the character on the greatest silent film star in history (Charlie Chaplan) didn’t hurt. But I want to know what happened to the several billion humans that didn’t make it aboard the Axiom.

  5. Lindsay Said:

They based him on Charlie Chaplan? Oh my gosh, my heart soars. I love it even more now, if that were et all possible. I’ve been floating around like a jerk since I saw it.

  6. Josh B. Said:

I know exactly what you mean about the lack of Word. I wasn’t told either when the computer was bought, and had to circumnavigate the difficulties… creatively.

Wall-E looks fantastic. I haven’t had a chance to see it yet, but I’m really looking forward to it.

  7. Brian #1 Said:

I’d have more sympathy for your difficulties if I hadn’t already solved them for you like four days ago :P

In other news, I used AbiWord as a Word alternative on my laptop for a while and found it to be a positive experience.

  8. Scott Said:

Brian -perhaps you refer to that Torrent you linked me to? the one that put a FUCKING TROJAN HORSE ON MY BRAND NEW COMPUTER!?!

Is that what you’re talking about when you say you “solved” my problem? Thanks buddy.

Tetseubo -I like to think that the rest of humanity died a slow and horrible death. It makes the movie that much more fun.

I have tried downloading OpenOffice twice now. I can’t get the EXE file to work. Vista says it’s not legit.

  9. #1 Brian Said:

If you weren’t so ugly, you wouldn’t have these problems.

  10. Tetsubo Said:

That would be one of the reasons I suggested not getting Vista. :P

    Vista sucks.

  11. Scott Said:

Getting Vista has nothing to do with HP not including a basic version of Word as part of the package.

though it might have something to do with Open Office not working.

As much as I love hearing other people squabble over software issues and operating system throw-downs, I’m content with watching this little nugget:

Can’t wait to go see Wall-E.

  13. Dan Said:

I heard there’s an upgrade out for Vista.

    ;-)

  14. Dan Said:

Slightly more helpfully, maybe you could find an answer in the oo forums?

It really is a good alternative to MS Office.
