Scott Wegener

Women love him...

and men want to be him...

Back from NYCC . . .packing for PittCon

I hate the day after a convention. No matter how hard I try to make the day after a good productive day, they always suck. First my virus protection flipped out and is refusing to update itself. Then Word would not open. then Photoshop. Several reboots later I am editing the blog when my host’s server shits the bed. I’m 3 1/2hrs into what should have been a half hour’s worth of work.

Yay Monday!

It’s a quarter to five on Thursday, and I just rolled up at Ma’ Weg’s pad on Staten Island. It was beautiful when I left New Hampshire but the difference 186 road miles South is incredible. Everything is green and lush, trees are sporting beautiful pink and white blossoms and it’s a dry 73 degrees with a nice breeze. No one is home right now so I’m just relaxing by myself on the back porch with my laptop and a gin & juice.

If I didn’t have this killer head cold it would be perfect.

I had to stop just outside New York for a nap –that’s how mankie I feel right now.

This sweet little article gives props to my hometown (and first) comic book Shop. Shaolin Represent! I like how even when the article is not about Atomic Robo the title gets dropped in there. =)

Friday night . . . no, wait, early Saturday morning. I am wearing Mary E. Brickthrower’s beer on my pant leg. Yuck.

Saturday night. The show was great. I’m too tired and sick to hang out though. Back to Jeff Powell’s place in Brooklyn for a coffee, then home to Staten Island.

This commute sucks! Its like driving from my house in NH to Rhode Island and back everyday, except it involves cars, subways, and way too much walking.

Sunday –got on the road around 12pm. I came into the show this morning because some dude insisted he wanted to buy pages and would be there in the morning if I would come in.

Do you think he showed up? Yeah. That’s what I figured would happen too.

Thanks dick.

Monday –home now and still a little sick. The drive was awesome though. The weather was great and there was almost no traffic. Manhattan’s West Side to my driveway in Wilton NH; exactly 4hrs and 3 minutes.

That’s an hour shorter than my previous best time. Woot!

I was trying to find some decent radio shows to listen to on the way home. This American Life and Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me! Are both great. But NYC’s Public Radio REALLY SUCKS! Connecticut is somewhat better, but I’m never feeling very good about the station programming until I get in range of Boston’s transmitter. You go WBUR. You go.

I’ve got 3 days before I head out (again!), this time for PittCon. So I need to work. But here’s a bunch of pictures. Some I took, other’s Powell took, and some I stole from Pat Loki who posted them to the BenBo’s. =)

Before I jump into that though, take a look at Radio Wayne. Wayne interviewed me at MegaCon a few weeks ago. He pimps Robo and lets me indulge my obsession with hearing the sound of my own voice. Take a listen.

Okay pics. Friday night was the only night I went out. The rest of the weekend I was just sleeping if I wasn’t at the con. As always it was AWESOME to see all my FOO friends!

Mike Oeming and Jeff Powell. Serious nerds.

Mary the Wretched and Loretta Gogetta. Suicide Girl poses + sexy glasses? Hawt.

Jeff “Boss Hogg” Brown and Kiara. The Canadian love connection.

Ziggy. he whistles in the dark.

Powell and my boy Tom Maur! Tom and I have been buds for ten years. He lives in Germany. This was the first time we ever met face to face.

Sean McManus; is not sure about Mary’s “cute” demon eyes.

I wish I had taken this pic and not Pat. Adam West-era Batman is my favorite.

Indiana Jones rocks. but Uglydolls too. Check the bins behind them! I just wanted to dive into their delicious plushy insides.

Sounded like it wasn’t a complete disaster. What is it though with these turds wanting you to lug your pages in and then not show up to buy them?! I had that happen at 2 cons one summer by the same guy. What a dick. Maybe this was the same dude?! I say we beat his ass!
Try to have a better time at PittCon.

  2. Jeff Said:

I’m still convinced Mike doesn’t know my name. ;) I’m stealing those pics, btw. Also, that Jesus is the very same one from Philly last year. JC gets around.

  3. Mary E. Brickthrower Said:

Great pics - hopefully Lo will have time in the next week to post hers - she’s kinda busy moving to Florida though.

  4. dnice Said:

I had the same response to the Indiana Jones pic- My eye just went to the massive Ugly plush pit.

  5. Jessie Lam Said:

Awesome awesome - wait - head cold’s still there? BAD HEAD COLD!! BAD~!!

Dost mine eyes decieve me?! Is that Atomic Robo poster 11×17 inches with no bleed?

… You gonna sell a movie sized poster of that someday? ‘Cause that would look like sex on a someone’s wall.

  6. Tetsubo Said:

I say you start taking deposits. If they want you to show up on a Sunday at a con, they pay something up front. At least you don’t lose out completely that way.

  7. Ernie Stiner Said:

Hey - Congradulations on being a Chesterfest Winner. Guess the announcement was a bit anti-climactic, as your Punisher issues came out already. See you in Pittsburgh.

  8. Ernie Stiner Said:

OK - That’s congraTulations on being a ChesterQUEST Winner! I should get a nap before I type.

  9. Scott Said:

@ Mark & Tetsubo -yeah very frustrating. Taking deposits is not a bad idea at all.

@ Jeff -Haha, yeah maybe. though I can kind of relate. I meet so many people at these things I can never keep them all straight.

@Ernie -Thanks! (Am I a ChesterQuest winner? No one told me.)

@Mary -pfft moving to Florida. A likely excuse. :)

  10. Frankie B Washington Said:

Hey Scott, I hope you feel better bro.
    peace and get well.

  11. Tetsubo Said:

I think you should make up “Scott Wegener Tour” t-shirts with a list of cons you’ve been to on the back. Intentionally cross out the Philly tour date though. :)

  12. Ernie Stiner Said:

Scott, here is a link from Newsarama about the ChesterQuest anouncements - http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=154237

  13. Thomas Said:

You forgot the E in my last name, mister! I hope the Eisner Awards will credit you as Scott WEGENDER for this insult. :P

It was good to finally meet you, Scott.

  14. jay Said:

What a ghadamn shame yet *another* dickhead blows you off with the promise of original art sales…every damn day is a further affirmation that people suck. Most people.

Sweet Robo poster. And a mighty fine sketch in someone’s Moleskin.
You’re looking pretty sleek, bro. Either that aforementioned diet is paying off or illness is draining your lifeblood!

  15. crispy Said:

Hey Scott thanks for hanging with us at the booth. I know it wasn’t artist alley but hey at least the Robotech/GI Joe/Sgt Rock guy found you! It was nice to meet Mr. Powell. I just read the FCBD book (one of the benefits of owning a shop) and it came out really great, I can’t wait for volume 2! Oh and everyone here is jealous of my Scott Wegener button!

  16. Tetsubo Said:

    There are “Scott Wegener” buttons?

Why have I not heard of this before now?

  17. Mark Stegbauer Said:

Buttons?! Damn I needs me one o’ them! I like the tour shirt idea. I’d do that but with only 3 cons for me this year, I’d have to do REALLY big lettering.
    Hmm, deposits, eh?

  18. Brian M. Said:

    Hey Scott,

The show was crazy busy. I did come by the booth once to say hello, but you were doing an interview so I kept going.

Have a great time in Pittsburgh.

  19. Jeff Said:

Crispy, I’ll swap my Clevinger for your Wegener.

  20. crispy Said:

See Scott I told you everyone was jealous of my Wegener button! Hey Jeff according to my Tomarts Guide to Team Robo Collectumibles a Wegener is equal to one Clevinger and a Kubrick, Wegener is an ultra-rare chase variant button! Who knew there was a whole online market for this stuff?! I started work on some Team Robo Pogs but Jeff Powell sent me a cease and disest order, he apparently owns the rights to Scott’s likeness. In fact Scott owes him $1 for the picture posted above.

  21. Tetsubo Said:

I’ve got pictures of Scott at my wedding, think they are worth anything? Heck, I have pictures of Scott at *his* wedding…

  22. Steve Said:

Hey, I recognize that Moleskine AND photo! ;)

Just now seeing this post Scott. Great meeting you at NYCC and looking forward to seeing you again (perhaps at SDCC?)
