Atomic Robo Nominated for 2 Eisner Award!
In typical I Hate Blogs blog style, the real news is made public about an hour after I post the Monday report.
Sigh.
You can read all the gory details on Publishers Weekly’s THE BEAT.
Atomic Robo is up for two awards, which is, of course, fantastic. =)
BEST LIMITED SERIES
Atomic Robo, by Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegender (Red 5 Comics)
Nightly News, by Jonathan Hickman (Image)
Parade (with Fireworks), by Michael Cavallaro (Shadowline/Image)
The
BEST COLORING
Jimmy Gownley, Amelia Rules! (Renaissance)
Steve Hamaker, Bone, vols. 5 and 6 (Scholastic); Shazam: Monster Society of Evil (DC)
Richard Isanove,
Ronda Pattison, Atomic Robo (Red 5 Comics)
Dave Stewart, BPRD, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cut, Hellboy, Lobster Johnson, The
Alex Wald, Shaolin Cowboy (Burlyman)
I really hope Ronda gets her Eisner. I mean, sure, she’s up against the likes of Dave Stewart, and he’s the guy whose work I would forward to Ronda and say “please color my comic book like this.” But seriously, Mr. Stewart has got to be running out of places to store all those Eisner’s he’s gotten already. Give us little guys a chance.
Of course, I hope that Brian and I also get our Eisner!! lol
I dunno. . . I’ve know about this all weekend and I’m still just trying to process the information. I think its funny that until last week I would never have thought Atomic Robo would get a nomination for an Eisner. But now if we don’t win I will will lapse into a crushing depression. I should call my doctor now and see if I can pre-order some Zoloft.
Well anyway, I need to get back to work. It is such an honor to even be considered for this award. The fact that Brian and I are complete new-comers to the industry seems to compound that honor. Its like making this book is what we were meant to do.

Annnnd this is the point where you stop returning my phone calls and emails. It was nice knowing you! Just kidding! Man what a trip, your first book rocks the planet with 3 printings of issue #1, you’ve got a FCBD book and now an Eisner nomination!? That’s so many shades of awesome, congrats man!!!
Hey everyone, don’t forget you can meet EISNER NOMINATED ARTIST Scott Wegener this weekend at the Double Midnight Comics booth at the New York Comicon! Stop on by booth #2702 on Friday from 12-3 and all day Saturday and give Scott a big pat on the back and an “Atta boy!”.
Scott please permit me to buy you a beverage this weekend!

Congrats!!! And having read all of the series (well, besides Parade (with Fireworks)) I’d have to say you’re pretty much a shoe-in for that category! I’ll be rooting for you!

Even nominated for an Eisner, “Wegender” still gets no respect:). In all seriousness, congrats to you, Brian, Rhonda, Jeff and all the good folks at Red 5.

Wow! It just keeps getting better and better for team Robo. Congrats to you all! Guess this is what happens when you combine extraordinary talent with a lot of hard work. Keep it up and we’ll be seeing a Robo movie on the silver screen in a year or two. See you next month in Manch-Vegas…

I am very proud of you Scott. Your calling wasn’t in advertising though it would have been cool to do a few gigs together. No, the truth is that you are a true sequential artisan and I am slightly envious of you. My years of working in animation, film and currently advertising has kind of stained the “comic lust” I had so many years ago when I entered art school. Don’t get me wrong- I love comics especially the graphic novel format. I’m just at the place where it’s become more of a hobby than a livelihood. I am very happy to see that you starting to grow in the comic industry and as a friend I ask only that you continue to push yourself as a true artisan of the craft. In another 20 yrs or so maybe we’ll both be at that place where the other “greats” reside. Long live “the King” Jack Kirby

Let me add my congratulations. I have loved the series.
I saw a Robo #1 with your autograph going for $19 at the Boston Comic Spectacular last week.
Here’s hoping you guys win this thing.
