Important Atomic Robo Press Release!
First of all -GODDAMNIT!
This stuff always goes out about an hour after I post the Monday blog. Grr!
Anyway, here is the super-cool announcement. Visit Red5 Comics for some finished preview pages of the Atomic Robo and Neozoic FCBD stories.
More Atomic Robo… Past, Free and Future
Bursting on to comic store shelves in October 2007 as the debut title of publisher Red 5 Comics, ATOMIC ROBO has quickly become a cult favorite of discerning and fun-loving comic readers everywhere and earning many “Best of 2007” nods.
ATOMIC ROBO #1 has sold out of its first and second printings (over 8000 copies). ATOMIC ROBO #2 also sold out, and as of this week ATOMIC ROBO #3, #4 and #5 have sold out – all earning a spot in the monthly top 300. The final issue of this volume, ATOMIC ROBO #6 (JAN083857), arrives on March 12 with the strongest initial orders of the series.
In response to continued demand, Red 5 Comics has issued a third printing of ATOMIC ROBO #1 (with the striking Michael Avon Oeming cover), and second printings of ATOMIC ROBO #2 to #5 will be available for pre-order from Diamond Comics next week and on-shelf starting March 19.
But the adventures of ATOMIC ROBO do not end there.
His next Action Science outing will be on Free Comic Book Day, May 3, 2008 in an all-new 16-page battle against Russian Comm-bots in the 1960s. ROBO co-creators Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener return for script and art duties, respectively – along with colorist Ronda Pattison and letterer Jeff Powell. Be sure to check with your favorite local comic shop in February to see if they are participating in Free Comic Book Day and including ATOMIC ROBO (FEB080036).
Red 5 Comics is pleased to announce that starting this fall, ATOMIC ROBO will return as a continuing series, with Clevinger and Wegener on-board for over twenty issues of ROBO exploits over the next three years.
“We couldn’t be happier to be able to share more of Robo’s adventures,” said Clevinger. “I can promise more explosions and more punching, but the two are probably unrelated. Punching things until they explode is just bad strategy, even for a robot.”
On the success of ROBO, Wegener waxed, “It was Mark Twain who said, ‘Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.’ The first time I drew Robo in a pair of cargo pants and muddy combat boots it was instant BFFs. Thank God other people seem to like the idea too.”

I order all my books online these days, but I’m definitely going to find a local shop to hit up on FCBD to grab one of these! Hopefully they’ll have ordered some and I won’t have to trash the joint.
You’ll have to ask them to order us then! Because we are a :Silver Tier” book (meaning there is no “X” in our title and we feature no members of the JSA or JLA) retailers have to specifically place an order for us.
Lucky for you that order code is right there in the press release: FEB080036
I’ve got some of these on order, giving them out to our regulars.
I love the cover. Communist robots are the greatest things ever!
Josh that’s great!
Little kids, ignorant of Robo need to know about him too though. ;D
Double Midnight (a retailer in my neck of the woods) is helping us run a little promo for FCBD. A “special” deal you night say. They posted the details to CBIA last night. (CBIA is that big retailer’s forum unless I am mistaken.)
So many second printings! Must have them ALL! Are 2-5 going to have new covers?
By the way, a friend of mine reviewed Atomic Robo by saying “That book makes me stick to my pants” haha… thought you’d like to know.
We get exactly zero children (who aren’t related to me) buying comics. Kinda sad.
I too would like to know if there are new cover for the reprints, or a “sketch cover” thing going on? Already have both printings of #1, might as well keep continuity!
Sorry guys, no new covers are planned at the moment. Getting them done would delay the reprints and the release of Vol.2.
however, if Red5 changes their mind and wants me to do new covers I will be happy to make it happen.
Right, I thought as much. It’s all good, the more Robo, the more better.
That’s great news Scott. I have loved the title.
As always, astute buyers should notify there local CBS to order them and add the title to their pull list.
Even big local chains like New England Comics only order a handful of copies. Without it on my pull list, I might be Robo-less.
This has nothing to do with the above, but I just got my Robo page (issue 2, page 11) and remarked sketchbook, and I could not be happier. Thank you so much for the awesome sketch, Scott.
Oh that was you?! HAHA awesome.
Glad you like. The one and only application of Robo’s fully-automatic 12 gauge shotgun.
I had a hell of a time finding that page. I have this strange Oscar Madison filing system in the unused bathtub of our second bog.
That was the mega-flame thrower sketch right? I liked the pose so much I based a piece for the American Cancer Society on it.
Yeah, that’s the one. After all, what better combination of buicks and flamethrowers to toast some ants, giant or otherwise?
Glad that Robo has tunrned out to be such a success story. Can’t believe (actually I can) Robo has sold out of all those initial printings! Don’t get me wrong, I love Robo in his cargo pants and muddy boots too, but call me a robo-perv, I want to see a nude Robo taking an oil bath ala C-3PO at some point (guess I’m ‘bot-curious–ha,ha:) That FCBD cover is your best yet! I’ll be taking my two nephews to meet the mighty Wegener on FCBD.
