Sick = Suck
I don’t know what I ate, or what crazy bug got into my system, but I am all messed up.
Luckily I write most of my blog in small snippets throughout the week so this won’t take too long and I can get back to being horribly ill.
Lets start with the Atomic Robo stuff. . .
A very excellent review of Atomic Robo #4 from IGN.com!
Sean Kleefeld gave a very thoughtful review of #4 over at Kleefeld on Comics. Though he might want to consider spell-checking a little more. LoL
Brian and I were interviewed recently by Heavy Inks –one of the more awesome online retailers carrying Atomic Robo. I’m pretty sure I offended one or more of Brian’s 8-Bit fans by calling them “thick chimps”. But really, they had it coming. You know that old adage that says, “There are no stupid questions,”? Well yes, it turns out there are.
Broken Frontier has been a source of very mixed opinions for Atomic Robo. Lucky for us DaveCole discovered us this month and we have been made members of his tribe.
Gutter Bleed appreciates our use of an old Jim Henson Muppet Show maxim. And if you can tell me which one you’ll win the No-Prize prize.
We never want to forget Chris’s Invincible Super-Blog either.
Over on Comics And . . . you can get a little sneak preview of Atomic Robo #6.
Mostly this has been one of those weeks were my family life has completely trashed my professional life. But not entirely in bad ways. The cat’s been getting into all kinds of stupid stuff, my father-in-law Mr. MaGoo has gotten even more crazy, and settling back into work on Robo has been really tough.
Kitchen Inspection Cat sez dishes are done now.
But iz your toezder cleen . . .?
Mua-ha! Az I thought. You seemz to haz a . . .uh! Youz got a . . .er!
Kitchen Inspections Cat is stuk. Youz will put down stoopid camera now and help me.
I filz out accident report on diz now. Kay, bye.
School was closed on Monday due to yet another giant snow storm. So rather than beginning my super awesome weight loss regime with a nice long walk, I started it with a few hours of shoveling snow and sleigh riding with the Widget. It was a lot of fun. The best riding is at a place called Carnival Hill, which is just a few blocks behind our house. I’d heard that a developer tried to build condos on the Hill a few years ago at which point the town officially bought it. That could just be a rumor though.
Its a BIG hill. That little speck at the left side of the tree-line is a person.
Start walkin’ Widget.
And walking . . .
Looking down the hill now. That little pink dot on the left is Widget.
It takes about 20 seconds to ride down the hill and about 20 minutes in bulky snow suits to huff it to the top. Needless to say, I only went up and down once.
On one of the Widget’s runs I think she broke the sound barrier. She was still digging herself out of the snow when I trudged down the hill to snap this last shot.
My exercise did get started the next day, and the day after that I realized that I was hiking through some really pretty stuff and I should take some pics to share with you guys.
If you remember the “Emergency Snow Blog” I took a bunch of pictures in downtown Wilton, and one of them showed a rail road crossing and a really steep hill. Burns Hill Road, its called. I figured my best chances for losing weight via walking would be to hoof it up that monster each day after dropping the Widget at school.
The day I took these pics it was SO cold. even after hiking up the hill and despite a very warm coat i was still freezing cold. My beard froze to the fur collar of my jacket -I tried to get a decent picture of that but I was all defrosted by the time I figured out where to aim the camera.
I’m about two steps past the RR crossing, looking up the hill. For some reason these things never look as steep as they really are in a photo. Probably because I’m angling it up to get the shot?
You get a slightly better sense of “hill” looking back down towards the center of town.
Stupid effin’ hills. . .
I decided to leave the beaten path and poke around on the snowed in trails.
I love this place. Its about a New York city block away from my front door.

Watching the ice float by was pretty cool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. Unless you could PBS’s Wild America programs.
On my way back out I saw that my earlier tracks were filled with water. There had been a fair amount of crunching in that part of the woods -I must have crossed a stream and not even known it.
Looking down through the trees back into Wilton.
A minute or so before I took this picture my chin beard was one giant ice cube. It had frozen into the “fur” of my coat’s hood -ripping myself free was not fun. (Note to self; clean the bathroom mirror.)
Okay that’s all I got. Back to sleep for me. See you guys next week.
Random Splendor
I never get tired of seeing this movie re-dubbed.
I think that Crayone Physics Delux has got to be one of the coolest little puzzle games I have seen in a long time. Oh sure it can’t compare to masterpieces like PORTAL, but it’s a free download and sweet in its simplicity. Like Katamary. While CPD is still in development, you can download the original from Kloonigames.
William Shatner sings Rocket Man. (With special intro by Bernie Taupin. Woot!)

My question made it in! Woo hoo!

Oh, and that hill looks AWESOME. I might have to come out and join you and (almost spilled the beans) The Widget.

See what all that nasty snow does? Create colds! Good luck shaking it.
Nice to have running water near the home. Very important.
Robo was also listed in this week’s “Best Shots” on Newsarama.

L-O-V-E love the bathroom art, Scott. where’d you guys find that?
poo! poo! poo!
there are great woods to explore at Curtis Farm, too. I will show you.
Also, p.s. I can generally affirm your basic understanding that Carinval Hill was in danger of development of some kind or another, and was saved somehow.

Man, I remember Carnival Hill… and my estate on Perham Corner Road (Black Sword Estate in fact)… though I love this weather out here, shots like that make me all mushy and sentimental for that place. It all stops when I get the smell of Silva Mart / Penguin Mart in my nose though… what the hell died in there??

Ryan -I always wondered who lived at Black Sword Estate. I always assumed it must be some serious SCA nerds or something
Where are you now?
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Dag, I hit “comment” too soon. . .
Susie - The “POO” art is just a scrap of wrapping paper I found a few years ago that we had framed.
Jay -I wish I had a cold. I’ve got some innards eating virus thing. They tend to do better in warm climates.
Thanks for that link!
BrianL -you should. I learned the hard way that you don’t sleigh ride without snow pants though. Consider yourself warned.
Ryan -I’m an idiot. Your in Arizona. (I know too many Ryans, one of whom works at Silva/Penguin Mart).

Haha, you have the same headphones as me. Skull Candy? Yes please.

Hey dude… Robo has been getting mad props from Newbury Comics employees… all of the stores top ten lists of 2007 have been coming out in the e-newsletter every week, and this week it was #2 and #1 on the two lists featured! Not too shabby.
Issue 4 was my favorite so far.
Hope you feel better… I just got over something fierce too, so I understand what you’re dealing with. Darn winter…

Scott, I’ve never really checked out this part of your blog — I’ve always just looked at your illustrations — but I must say that looks like a great little town. It’s almost like you’re living in a Richard Russo novel.

The gang at my branch of New England Comics is also very high on Robo.

I need to hook up with New England Comics. Been chatting with Benn and Lindsey over there about something when the TPB comes out.
