Robo Shirts & Zombies
Before I begin I’d just like to direct everyone’s attention to this. Dark Horse Presents -probably the best American comic book anthology ever- is back! This time its online and hosted by the dreaded MySpace, but this totally rocks my socks. DHP was an excellent venue for exposing the comic reading public to TONS of great artists and writers who later went on to do amazing things. HELLBOY for example really took off after appearing in serialized format in DHP. You get a great mix of new talent and old pros like Guy Davis and Art Adams doing their own quirky thing in DHP. I’m super-psyched to see this book back, even if it is in electronic format. Not that web-based comics aren’t awesome, As you shall soon see.
Okay, so I’m both happy and overwhelmed with shirt orders. I haven’t actually opened any of the emails from PayPal yet -they are just sitting in a folder awaiting my attention. I think Wednesday will be Shirt-Day. At which point I’ll pack them up and send them out and see if I can get you guys some sort of confirmation via email that I received your money.
The next time I will be able to send shirts out again will be mid- to late-August. For anyone who missed the last post, these shirts are made in a very cottage industry sort of way. So I need to accumulate enough orders to justify having them made. Sorry if that’s an issue for anyone.
In other news I seem to be busy again! Not that I wasn’t busy last week. But now I have some projects to look forward to after finishing KILLER OF DEMONS. (I posted a new page from KOD in the INKS gallery btw -Dave standing in his cubicle armed to the teeth.)
It looks like webcomics will be the name of the game post-KOD, and pre-ATOMIC ROBO vol2. I am just about halfway done with KOD 3, and while I wrap that up I am doing some basic pencils for a webcomic that will be put out by Wizards of The Coast. If you don’t know who WoTC are, then you’re simply not a big enough dork to be my friend.
I can’t spill the beans about the nature of this project just yet but I can tell you that Mr. DumbFace who also writes ATOMIC ROBO, and my Pet Gorilla who letters ROBO are also part of the creative team. Colors are being performed by the sexiest man in comic books. He also colored this fun little bit of spooky crime.
But that’s not all! Why do one webcomic when I can do two!?! The second thing I’ll be doing once I totally finish KOD3 is a web serial that deals with everybody’s favorite subject -ZOMBIES! Actually, I don’t like zombies at all. I know, I know, how can I be a comic book geek and not like zombies?
Actually, its more like they creep the fuck right out of me, so rather than saying “I’m absolutely terrified by the shuffling hordes of brain eating rotters,” I prefer to say, “Pfft, zombies are stupid.”
So I spent my morning trolling the web for pictures of zombies. If anyone has any good ones please send them along. With every new image I find my skin crawls a bit more, and my anus and belly button try to shake hands somewhere in my pelvis. Its all so icky, and I imagine wet as well. Zombies would be wet, right?
The basic idea is original to zombie culture as far as I know. Y’see there’s this virus that causes rage and makes really fast and scary zombies . . . Oh wait. That was that shitie movie I watched. No, in this story becoming a zombie is actually something that many people WANT to have happen to them. Why is that? I don’t know. BUT, if you can think of Jesus, and you can think of zombies, and you can think of Zombie Jesus, then you might be able to not really figure out where this is all going.
As the author and strip have no websites yet (that I know of) I can’t link you to anything fun. But I can share the first sketch I did this weekend. The zombies suck, but most first-attempts at anything tend to. I should see if I can find the first pic of ROBO I ever did. . .

Bro, glad to see you’re doing a comic with Zombies.
I happen to be quite the zombie go-to guy. I think we talked about that at Digital Overload…
Hopefully, your fear of them will show in some amazing artwork. I know I’ll be doing plenty of fan art for this webcomic.

Don’t look at what other people think zombies look like, go forth and find pictures of real death and then animate it.

I’ve been waiting for weeks for my Atomic Robo shirt to show up. Now I find out that I have to ORDER one? What is that, like some kinda comic book insider code?

Oh crap, you gave me a heart attack! I was about to start scouring my Gmail account for a missed message from PayPal!

Robots and Zombies! All you need now is Pirates and Ninjas! Then my friend, your creative circle will be complete.

I feel sort of dirty when you put it like that. Its as if, unwittingly, I’ve stumbled into the hack real of Dracula -vs-
Why God?

I just wanted to pop in here and mention that I live less than 20 minutes from the Solid Rock Church (the giant Jesus statue). Rumor has it, it’s made of butter.
