Luxury Ghetto Studio Make-Over
First, a quick note to anyone who’s tried to call my cell phone lately. I sort of dropped it or something last weekish and now it rings and no one is there, tell’s me I’ve missed calls that were not made, and wont let me access voice mail.
Try emailing me. That works much better.
Well that was a pretty good weekend. For the first time in 6 and a ½ years, Dorinda and I got a weekend alone! Emma went camping with some friends and we were left all by our wittle lonesomes. Sweeeeeet!
Friday night we went out on an official “dateâ€. The very excellent poet Jack McCarthy was reading at the Bridge Café in Manchester NH. I should say that for Jack and the Bridge Café crew, “poetry†is sort of a mislabeling. “Spoken word†would be far more appropriate, with a healthy dose of “performance†thrown into the mix. It was extremely entertaining! I’ve know Jack (in a very peripheral way) for years through my wife, and in a strange twist his sister was president of the college I worked at when I was a flight instructor.
I was amazed at the number of folks who came out of the woodwork to hear Jack read, many from Worchester MA, and some from as far away as Rhode Island. And I thought I was hardcore for making a 20 minute drive up Rt. 101.
I definitely want to check out the Bridge Café’s next show on the 15th –except I can’t since I’ll be in Philadelphia for Wizard World Philly. You can find me at table 1705A. Bring a friend!
In other news the talented and lovely, (which is not a prerequisite for talent, but surely never hurt anyone), Cheryl Senter came over WICKED early this morning to interview and take photos for a “Day In The Life of Scott Wegener†thing. I was extremely nervous, and whenever the microphone got shoved in my face my brain switched into dumbass-mode, (its default setting I should note). I’m sure it will be amusing for everyone to check out –except me. I’ll let you all know when that will be. Please check out Cheryl’s site. The current photo on the front page *might* be a tad misleading –especially since I think it has to do with one of the personalities of NH Public Radio. (Now you won’t be able to resist looking, will you?)
I learned something super important this week. I learned that Viva Pinata is totally retarded. And I mean that in the worst possible way. After losing an entire day to the game I have been very careful about letting myself play. But I had a little time Saturday morning so I squished myself into the gaming Sumo and visited my piñata garden. After twenty minutes of trying to tempt and cajole my piñata into mating with one another so that I could sell their children on the black market, and unsuccessfully attempting to lure new piñata onto my plot for the sole purpose of feeding them to some of my more aggressive creations, it struck me –What the fuck am I doing?!
Am I a Man, or am I a pinata farmer!?! Well I’m here to tell you that I’m ALL Man, baby! All Man.
I never want to see that stupid soul-sucking game again. But Widget loves it so I guess I’ll keep it around. In the mean time I’ll keep blasting Mexican rebels in Ghost Recon and waiting for the day when a game arrives for the X-Box 360 that is NOT a shooter or a stupid waste of time involving South American party games.
KILLER OF DEMONS is trudging along. And by trudging I mean its quickly becoming my own personal Batan Death March. I feel like I’m in one of those dreams where you run around all over the place, but its like running through delicious jello, yet my bills and creditors move at lightning speeds. Its almost getting to the point where its like work. Sort of.
My latest batch of ATOMIC ROBO shirts rolled in the other day in eyeball loving kaki. Sounds weird, I know, but to see it is to love it. Dorinda and the Widget also got some special order shirts in pink. Very cute.
Speaking of those shirts I still haven’t heard back from the guy who was building my online store thingie, even though I emailed him a few weeks ago about it. Sorry to everyone who’s been waiting to purchase some fine ROBO swag. They are quite sweet and I look dreamy in mine. But I know that Mr. Webstore reads this blog, so maybe this will shame him into at least replying to my email.
I don’t have any Random Splendor to share this time I’m afraid. Maybe you guys can post some links? Since we were sans-Widget this weekend we somehow figured out better things to do with our time than sitting around surfing the internets.
Oh, but I can bore you to tears with pics of the new look for the Studio/Laundry Room. I’ve been yard-saling for a new mountain bike –I love old beater bikes. I have the fondest memories of my old Specialized. I HATED the $600 bike I bought to replace it. Anyway, no luck on the bike front but I found a table that was PERFECT for holding my ginormous scanner and had a nice deep drawer that could hold blank comic book pages. So I bought it. This lead to 4 hours of emptying book shelves, dragging a 100lb drafting table around the room and soothing my wife’s ruffled feathers as I ran the vacuum around while she tried to write her thesis, which is due in two days.
I filled up yet another box of books to trade in at the Toadstool and started a new heaping pile of comic books to ship off to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Surprisingly, adding a larger piece of furniture forced me to use space more efficiently and I like things much better now.
Here’s a pic of the rearranged digs, and a pic of Dorinda sportin’ her sexy new Robo tee.

Okay, SOME Random Splendor
