Roadtrip!
I love a good road trip. At least, I used to. There is something about the psyche of a twenty-something year old that gives them the ability to happily drive hours and hours to attend the smallest gathering, no matter how far away, or how inconsequential. I think this has something to do with the innate narcissism of youth. The believe, on some sub-conscious level that no matter what, the party can’t really begin without them.
At some point though, most of us come to appreciate the true importance of our own existence. Which is to say that individually we don’t matter all that much at all. It is then that spending more time in the car driving than we will at a party enjoying ourselves begins to seem like a really, really stupid idea.
But little brothers only graduate from college once, so I was more than happy to sit in the car for four hours, driving through torrential rain, to sit in a stinky gymnasium, (because it was raining and the very lovely outdoor ceremony was moved inside), to watch my brother walk across the stage an receive his first diploma in what will probably be a long line of higher-learning achievements.
So for anyone who may have tried to contact me last week, that’s where I was. And the cell phone reception in Kingston NY was terrible. Sorry.
I’m inking KILLER OF DEMONS #2 now, and so far its going really well. Not fast (which sucks) but I’m happy with the work I’m doing. Take a peek in the Inks Gallery –I’ll be putting some finished work up in there later today or tomorrow.
Went to GraniteCon yesterday. It was rainy again. The show was fairly slow, but still a good one. Got to hang with Bob and Jen which is always fun. They brought some sort of brownie cookie thing with raisins. So Everything else that went down that day was just icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned.
I also brought along the 3-D Hollywood Nudes book –obviously that was a hit.
I’ve been getting some pre-press release stuff on Atomic Robo from the good folks at Red 5 Comics. So far everything looks fantastic. They are doing a great job on the production side of things and I’m more excited than ever about this book.
Hopefully, between ROBO and KOD I’ll be able to put my name on the map. I hope you’re spreading the word! I want to see more Robo stories in the future, but I can’t do that without you guys.
Well that’s it for news. Lets move on to some Random Splendor:
The amazing, fantabulous, Convert-O-Meter! Where else can you learn that 1 newborn baby = 8.7229 cans of soda?! I found this gem over on BrianKaneOnline, a site that always brings a smile to my face, and occasionally, coffee spewing out my nostrils.
And as always, Beware the CRABS!

Hey, I don’t think the party can start without me.
I KNOW the party doesn’t start without me.
And yo know I’m looking forward to Robo. Glad KoD is working out for you as well.

I got to meet Dorinda and Widget at Granitecon so I that alone was worth the 2 hour round trip. Plus, I picked up Issue No. 3 of “The Underburbs,” a fun independent book by Joe Haley & T.J. Dort. It’s the Munsters meet Night of the Living Dead with a cool Adams Family vibe. Check it out while waiting for Issue 1 of Robo and KOD.

Sorry I missed you at Granitecon. I scored a great deal on a plane ticket to California which was impossbile to pass up. Glad you got to meet my girlfriend. She was very impressed with your work and said you were “nice and cool.” Thanks for the pencil sketch of Atomic Robo. I haven’t seen it yet but I’m sure it rocks. Looking forward to reading an email from you soon (hint:) Have to get back to tannning my pale, white carcass. Take care.

LOL, yeah I’ve still got that email sitting in the inbox, staring accusingly at me. I always put off the ones that require more than a three line response.
It was nice meeting your girlfriend. How was the Star Wars thing?

Your name is already on the map. Between Awesomeness and Robot Sex.
Somewhere in that mess. As I said. Awesomeness.

Wait, there’s SEX in Atomic Robo. Where have you been hiding those pages Scott?

Pffft, that would make it the best comic book EVER. Throw some random robot sex in there.
It worked for…. wait, is there any movies that have robot sex in it?

Sorry for the tardy reply. I’m trying to adjust to my boring life here in NH after my amazing trip to Cali. The Star Wars convention was spectacular. 30,000 fans, many in costume, tons to see and do. I volunteered for Official Pix handing the actors their photos to sign and collecting tickets from people who wanted autographs. I didn’t make any money, but I got to chat with the actors and get some behind-the-scenes info and received one autograph for each hour I worked (9 total.) I like the Robo sketch my girlfriend asked you to draw–thanks. Fill me in on what’s been going on with you when you get a chance. Later…

P.S. Really enjoyed your sketch book as well. It’s always cool to get a peek into another illustrator’s process. My girlfriend forgot to have you sign it. Oh well, there’s always the next convention right? By the way, I’d be interested in purchasing some more inked sketches if you have any to sell.
