Red 5 on Silver Bullet Comics

Okay, February ended a few short hours ago, and I’ve got the first 7 pages of ROBO #5 inked. I’ll have the book finished before the Digital Overload show on the 9th. To speed up the work I’ve begun inking exclusively in Sharpie Marker. I’m loosing a lot of the finer details, but I’m sure no one will notice.

Red5 did a lovely wee interview with Silver Bullet Comics. They mention my name once, and show some Robo art. The interview speaks for itself, so I won’t ramble on.

Atomic Robo Sketchbook is available from Lulu. I’ll have copies at Digital Overload and the other Boston show this month. Brian and I hastily slapped this . . . er, lovingly crafted it over months and months of dedicated work. Actually, I was still sick as a dog and should have been sleeping, but I spent several days fighting with the “do it yourself” Lulu software. What a total pain in the ass. Buy this to justify my pain. ;)

One of my favorite movies hit the Public Domain this week: Bullitt If you’re not a Steve McQueen fan then you are dead to me. Also available in the Public Domain are some classic sci-fi movies that I feel are really “must watch” movies. Forbidden Planet was the first classic sci-fi movies that I saw as a kid that I liked. I still like it. The Day The Earth Stood Still proves that not everyone one in the 50’s was a near-sighted, narrow-minded bullet-head. And there are many more. Take a look around sometime.

    Hey Scott,

I loved the color work on the Atomic Robo piece that accompanied the story. Fall of 2007 cannot come fast enough.

  2. Scott Said:

    Yeah, tell me about it!

I found out today that Red 5 was unaware of how far along ROBO is. Maybe we’ll get an earlier release than that.

  3. Brian M. Said:

Yeah, when I read the quote that all the books were at least at the pencil stage of issue one, I immediately thought of you inking Issue No. 5 and wondered what they were waiting for. Of course, the one thing that did worry me was talk of a “5-verse.” I say concentrate on putting out good comics first, and once that is accomplished, you can start to worry about whether all the books in your line are in the same universe so that you can have guest appearances, cross-overs and
    “Big” events.

Just the two cents of a guy who will be pre-ordering two of their books right off the bat.

  4. Scott Said:

I wouldn’t worry too much about a “5-verse”. From what I’ve seen the launch titles are so different in their settings that this would not work.

But I think Paul and Scott said that was something to be looked at down the line.

You know what I would love? To see ROBO appear in Alan Moore’s TOP 10. That’s a perfect setting for the old rust bucket.

Though Moore would have to write it -I just read “Beyond The Farthest Presinct”, which I believe is the first story arc not written by Moore.

It was terrible! The art was okay (just barely “okay”) and the story was horrible.

I was pretty irritated because all the other TOp 10 stuff I’ve read has been fantastic.

That would be a dream come true, but you’d have to slip Officer Mulcahy discreetly in the background somewhere.

  6. Scott Said:

Haha, I think I’d have to slip myself in as well. But too many bearded guys might be suspicious.

  7. Brian M. Said:

I see two options. We pitch it as The League of Extraordinarily Hairy Gentlemen, or one of us gets our respective sweeties to allow us to shave. LOL.

  8. Scott Said:

It will have to be the former. My wife won’t let me get rid of the beard.

  9. Brian M. Said:

Yeah (looks down at feet) my wife won’t let me either. The LXHG it is and, as the picture on his dust jacket will attest, Alan isn’t just the president of the LXHG, he’s also a member.
