White Christmas, My Ass!

God I miss electricity! The lights went out at 6:30am and haven’t come back.

Dorinda woke me in the predawn light to shine a giant SCUBA light in my face -so that I could find my way downstairs in two hours when I woke up. Thanks babe. Luv you.

For two days now we’ve had intermittent power thanks very much to an ice storm that moved through the area Sunday night.

But the Juice has been cut off all day and there are no lights, heat, internet, or coffee in my house today. This sucks.

I was thinking that I might actually get a few days off this month –my first since starting this freelance art nonsense. Being forced to take time off by Nature is *not* what I had in mind. . .

It was eleven o’clock this morning before I saw my first cup of joe. That is NEVER a good thing as my system is used to several gallons of the One True Beverage a day. Homicide was looking more and more like a viable outlet for my insatiable anger.

Its four in the afternoon on Tuesday as I write this, and I just dropped the Widget off at her grandfather’s house where he still enjoys such modern contrivances as heat and electricity. We were both ready for a break from each other. We spent most of today visiting the libraries in our area –all except our own, which is also blacked out. Which stinks since it’s the only place I could get on the internet and take care of some blogging –which is close to getting work done. I was hoping we could spend some time at a semi-local coffee shop that had both power and free internet. Unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea and it was standing room only inside, and it took twenty minutes to find a parking place.

Power is slowly returning, and I’m kicking back in the local coffee joint –Santos Dumont. If was a writer, rather than an artist, I think I’d do a large amount of my work in this place. Good jazz, good vibes from the building and staff. A real gem hidden in the back woods of Mew Hampshire.

The building that Dumont’s occupies is an old three room school house. The old blackboard now serves as a place to post the menu, and something for the kids to make goofy kid art on. The coffee comes from a local roster just down the street –it’s a real nice change from Starmuck’s or Dunkin Coffee Flavored Sugar-Cream drink Donuts.

To bad I can’t haul the studio down here. But at least I have this ridiculous blog to make me feel like I’m “working”.

In other news, Halo is now taking to the battlefields of Iraq. Friggin’ Bazaar.

PS: Power returned at 5:30pm. Good thing too, ’cause Dee looks chilly!

We lost power twice yesterday. Both times for 4-5 hours. Unfortunately, the second time my generator decided it didn’t want to work any more. It’s seven years old, but I’ve only used it a couple of times. I think the oil level sensor is on the fritz, because it says the oil is too low to work, but it’s full. I even went out in the dark, bought oil, and gave it an oil change, but still no love.

I hate it when things don’t work the way they’re supposed to, which is most everyday when you’re a homeowner…

Y’know that’s the third story I’ve heard about generators crapping out today. I think you guys all got scammed. :)

heh, I am here in NY, warm and happy. The G5 keeps the house nice and toasty for the most part, don’t even have to turn on the heat.

Glad to hear you guys got your power back. My sweetie mentions getting a generator everytime we lose electricity around here - which isn’t very often believe you me - but I always resist since I’m no ace mechanic and I figure exactly what happened to Bill and the other folks you heard about Scott, would happen to me.

At least it was only a few hours for me. There are people in the next town over who still don’t have power.
