Stone by Day, Rejected By Night
I was super stoked to get an email from one of the creators of GARGOYLES a week or so ago. They were shopping around for fill-in artists to work on the new Gargoyles comic book. Like all the other comic book artists I know, I have NO IDEA what is going on in the industry, so it was a double pleasure. A comic? Me maybe draw comic? Happy day!
Apparently Satan is wearing ear muffs and bun warmers, because Disney and Slave Labor have teamed up to make this happen. Milk & Cheese have gone Disney. WOW. Did you guys feel that? The Earth just skipped a groove. LOL
Alas, the art director chose to go with someone else. That’s fine though as it would have put a big crimp in my ATOMIC ROBO work. I was honored just to be looked at. Maybe next time Goliath.
And if not for this, my website would still be down. So lots of good came out of the deal.
Not much else to report. I should be hitting the “halfway there†point on pencils for ROBO #3 today. That will be nice.
I guess that’s it. Its too damn cold and snowy to blog today. I need to warm my hands on the potbelly coal stove for a bit so I can get back to the pencils.
Tetsubo sent me this link to day. I’m not a huge Cthulhu fan (nor do I dislike the little Eldar bastard). But these figures are too funny not to get. I want it just for the terrified humans.

Sorry you didn’t get the gargoyle gig, but that is so cool that they contacted you as it means your name is out there and getting a little buzz. Plus, other than the money - a big other to be sure - it’s not such a great loss as with books like that, they really want you to draw on model and be as close to the generic house style as possible so it’s not a missed opportunity to get “your art” out there.

Oh I agree as far as the having to “draw on model” bit goes, and the not-so awesomeness that can go with it.
I’m pretty confused about the money. Two different people said something like, “the money really stinks”.
But is that by Disney standards, or by small-press comic book standards?
